Christmas Stockings

Machine: Bulky

Yarn: 4-ply Red Heart

Tension: T6

DIRECTIONS:

Cuff

1. E-wrap 52 stitches or use a weaving cast-on.  Hang weight.
2. Knit 15 rows.
3. Transfer every other stitch to the adjacent  needle.  Bring empty needles back to work position. This will form a picot.
4. If no name or design is being placed on the cuff, knit 16 rows and skip to step 11.
5. If using a name or design, it should be 9 rows. Place isolators on center 24 stitches. Knit 3 rows
6. Lock card and set carriage to SM (single motif).
7. Knit 1 row.
8. Unlock card. Place contrast yarn in Feeder B.  Push in MC button.
9. Knit 9 rows making sure to wrap end needles to avoid holes. Turn off SM.
10. Knit 3 rows.
11. Hang e-wrapped stitches on working needles. This forms cuff.
    CHANGE COLOR if main part of stocking is a different color than cuff. CHANGE TO TENSION 7 and knit 1 row.

NOTE: Remember to change tension dial back to T6.

Body:

1. Knit 8 rows main color.
2. Lock card. Set carriage to SM. Select small pattern 5 -10 rows.
3. Unlock card. Push in MC button. Place contrast in Feeder B. Knit pattern Remember to wrap. Knit required number of rows.
4. Knit 5 rows plain.
5. Lock card. Set carriage to SM.  Select a large pattern 34 - 40 rows.
6. Repeat step 3.
7. Knit 8 rows.
8. Repeat step 2.
9. Knit 10 rows.
10. There should be approximately 70 - 90 rows in the body of the stocking.

NOTE: Some patterns may be larger than 40 rows. You will need to make adjustment accordingly.

Heel:

1. Change color to contrast color for heel
2. Set carriage to hold position. Carriage on right. Place needles left of zero into hold position. Short-row by placing needle next to carriage into hold and knit 1 row. Continue until 14 stitches remain in center. Reverse short-rowing by placing needle opposite carriage back to work. Continue until all needles are back in work position.

Instep:

1. Change to main color yarn.
2. Knit 30 rows.
   If you wish it put date or design in instep choose a design or date that is 9 rows high.  Place in the center of  total of  30 rows. It will be 10 rows plain, 10 rows pattern, and 10 rows plain.

Toe:

1. Repeat heel directions.

Finishing:

1. Take off on scrap.
2. Hang the contrast color stitches right side facing.
3. Hang main color stitches wrong side facing on the same needles.
4. Pull one stitch through the other.
5. Bind off around the gate posts.
6. Steam. Sew seam.
7. If desired line inside of stocking with polyester knit lining.
